The Best Beaches in Baja California Sur
Baja California Sur is the second-longest peninsula on Earth and is located in Northwestern Mexico. Baja California Sur is known for its outstanding beaches, local wildlife, and quaint non-touristy towns.

Bahía Magdalena / Magdalena Bay
Have you ever wanted to see a whale up close? Well, in Magdalena Bay located along the western coast of the California Sur you can do just that.
Every year this stunning bay hosts California gray whales who’ve come to calve during the winter. These intrepid mothers arrive in Baja’s calving lagoons around January / February. The region’s calm, warm waters offer a haven for expectant mothers.
Wondering where is the best place to spot these beautiful whales? Head to Puerto Lopez Mateos to catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures.
For those into their bird spotting, nearby Mangrove Swamps provide a sanctuary for seabirds. More of a fishing fan? Then you’re in luck as this bay is an excellent spot for recreational fishing.

Lover’s Beach
Considered by many “The jewel of Los Cabos” Lover’s Beach is a popular spot, and it is easy to see why. This picturesque location is the perfect escape from the daily grind and is only accessible by boat. Lover’s Beach is the ultimate break away from civilization.
A must-see at Lover’s Beach is the Arch, also known locally as El Arco. This world-famous rock formation divides the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.
Some say Lover’s Beach got its name from a tale of doomed lovers. According to legend, a Japanese sailor was rescued by a local young woman. The pair fell in love, but the woman’s father forbade it and beat the sailor to near death.
The woman returned to the shores where she met her lover and took her own life to be with him. Others say Lover’s Beach got its name due to the “marriage” of the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez.

Todos Santos
Imagine a place with white sand beaches, friendly locals, perfect waves, and a hidden gem unknown to most tourists.
This is a real place; it’s the incredible town of Todos Santos. This town is considered the epicenter of surfing in Mexico and is only a 1.5-hour drive from Los Cabos.
Todos Santos has a famed history within the surfing community and is known for its 20 footer waves called Killers. In 1998 Taylor Knox stunned the surfing world by successfully riding a 52-foot wave.
Don’t worry, you aren’t expected to scale Killers on your trip to Todos Santos. There are plenty of opportunities for beginner surfers to dip their toes into these beautiful waters. Santa Maria Bay
Santa Maria Bay is found west of Playa del Oro and is considered a hidden gem as well as a hit with the locals.
Dip your toes into serene azure waters, sheltered from the elements in a natural cove. This beach has earned a Blue Flag Status, which means that it has high standards of cleanliness and water quality.
Santa Maria Bay is one of the best beaches to go snorkeling and it’s also a protected Marine Sanctuary. The bay is home to a multitude of exotic and colorful fish and marine life thanks to its curved shore and reef.

Chileno Bay
Chileno Bay is another favorite with the locals and is located 11 miles north of the top of the Baja Peninsula. These turquoise waters got their name from Chilean pirates during the 16th and 17th centuries. These pirates would use the cove, as its calm and concealed waters meant that it was the perfect location to lay in wait for the gold-laden Spanish ships.
This bay is host to a whole array of marine life, such as pufferfish, angelfish, sea lions, whales, and even sharks! This bay is perfect for wildlife thanks to its warm and calm waters.
If you want to avoid the crowds, make sure to visit in the week and lose yourself in the perfect scenery. Breathe in that warm air and let your feet sink into the sun-baked sand.
